Turquoise Sgraffito Vase
Thown and trimmed on my potters wheel to create this elegant shape, I then etched into the top of the vase using a technique called sgraffito to produce the pattern. It is hand sgraffito'd in a bold inperfect repeating pattern. The glossy glass of the glaze meets the raw texture of the patterned clay, complimenting and contrasting beautifully.
The glaze is just glorious- it's slightly metallic, a little earthy in tone and has pulled tiny spots of iron in the clay to the surface during firing, creating a subtle blush of freckles.
