About Me

My creative start really begins with my dad who is a stonemason and my mum a painter/jewellery maker and 70's fashion student. I would have loved to have seen that. At school I only really excelled at Art and maybe English lit and so it was a natural progression to go onto Art Foundation and then The Arts University Bournemouth. There I tried my hand at illustration but confounded by an Apple computer I gave up and switched to Model Making where I entered the glorious world of sculpture, special effect makeup, prop making and not a computer in sight. Later I worked for a short stint in special effects (HotFuzz, Doctor Who and Torchwood mainly) before deciding I wanted to travel the world. After a year travelling Australia and New Zealand and running out of money and really not seeing too much of the world I headed home. I bounced around a few creative jobs, took over stone masoning from my dad for a bit and then fell into charity marketing. There I stayed for around 7 years, 5 of those in a large UK charity where the people and the cause were brilliant but my longing looks out the office window became more... long. I saw a poster for an evening pottery class and signed up and although little did I know then, it would change my life. I loved every minute of it and even more so that peek into a creative's lifestyle - I'm sure I glamourized it-  had my empty yearning switch up a gear with ferocious focus. When I found out I was pregnant with my first baby I knew this was it and I planned my escape. I joined another evening course, signed up for an excellent glaze course and upskilled between baby naps and caffeine hits.

I find it fascinating how a messy muddle that is essentially a dollop of mud, can be sculpted, turned, coiled and crafted into things of deliberate shape and beauty. The complexity of the process intrigues me; cool clay, extreme heat, the chemistry of all those glorious glazes. Each one of my hand made creations is unique and I hope you enjoy them as much as I love making them.
