Mothers Night

Mothers Night 🌙 the first eve of Yule is when mothers are celebrated for their nurturing protective spirit. It’s when we look back on our ancestral women and remember that we are here because of them. The red in our hair, artistic eye, tilt in our shoulders, stubborn streak - there are all things passed on. 
We honour their courage through times when our ancestral women had to fight for freedom and were even hunted and persecuted. We honour the women who do not bear children but support our communities in other vital ways. We honour the trans women who are now fighting for their own freedom and rights. The women in other parts of the world where they too are fighting as our ancestors did. We honour the aunts, sisters, daughters, grand mothers. The women friends. The women neighbours. The women. 
I wanted this sculpture to honour not just mothers but the women who surround mothers, the aunts and friends who help raise our children. And for it to honour the ancestors that have gone before but who are still within us. 
This sculpture: Mother’s Night is to recognise the need for community, for women to gather, for women to raise up women, for inclusivity and acceptance and specifically for this sculpture: for all mothers to feel valued, loved, important, supported and surrounded by good women folk. 
PLEASE NOTE
Mothers Night is not perfect, there are small cracks in places, most noticeable across her belly and where the child's foot rests on mothers leg. Although she is strong and I can ship her within the UK, as with all my sculptures, I would welcome anyone willing to collect her from my studio.
