Raku Polar Bear
£64.00Price
A Raku Polar Bear, fired in a gas kiln and taken red hot from it with tongs and placed in sawdust. The combination of the burning smoking sawdust, the removal of oxygen when the lid goes on, creates the most fascinating variation of colours and shade and even texture. White crackles with patches of silver, smoky tones and blackened textures cover the Polar Bear. The amaxzing thing with this result is that the silver that covers the face of the bear was not intentional- it is the same glaze as over the body, but here it turned silver in a fluke of the firing. I will never be able to recreate this and so she is special indeed!
